The game, which includes Elk, Deer, Moose and Bear, is plentiful in the area. Your host, Ray Billings, is an experienced hunter and guide. We hunt in the wilderness portion of Area #84, also known as Lower Hoback, which includes Horse Creek, Little Granite and Coal Creek. There is no other licensed wilderness camp in the area, but the major difference between the Horse Creek Ranch and other outfitters is the area in which it is located. The largest resident elk herd and the finest trophy deer in the state of Wyoming are to be found here. The Lower Hoback area also offers excellent stream fishing. Horse Creek Ranch Outfitters Guide School Since 1959, Horse Creek Ranch has been conducting training courses for wilderness outfitters in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. The 30-day course, which includes training in wilderness hunting, packing, guiding and cooking, is conducted in the wilderness area around Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Also included in the training are horsemanship, horseshoeing, proper saddling, the making of hitches, the proper care of horses and other stock, the setting up of camps, and the planning, preparation and cooking of meals. The fee for the month long course is only $3200.00 and includes all training, lodging and food. Cowboys and cowgirls can ride horses while the pioneer folks ride in the covered wagon. Both groups rendezvous at the same location where the meal is served. Western entertainment is included with the evening supper rides. Both the Breakfast Ride and the Supper Ride last about 3 hours.
